BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TIJA STANLEY, the Federation’s first-ever Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) professional fighter is expected to compete in Curacao next month.

The event is being promoted by International Cage Warriors and he is slated to fight Robert ‘Danger’ Mc Carthy of Jamaica, whom he defeated last May in a battle lasting two rounds in Trinidad.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Stanley gave the details of his upcoming fight.

I have a rematch down in Curacao at the International Cage Warriors with Robert Mc Carthy fighting for the ICW Middleweight Professional Championship. On October 5, I will be ‘repping’ our country.

Stanley added that he has a coach from the USA who would be in St. Kitts working with him and would be scouting him for future fights.

“I have a coach coming down from the states that is coming with me to this fight down in Curacao his name is Jason Kavoski.

“He has trained with big fighters who have fought in the UFC before. He has guys that fight for Belltor. Jason and I have been talking for a while and he is just coming down to scout me. I will just fight and see where the next step is. Hopefully, we get to a big organisation and we could really see how this fight thing goes.”

He thanked his new training partner Nickal Spencer from Sandy Point who he claimed he could not do without.

Stanley also disclosed that other fights for him are in the making in Brazil and England.

“I have some more fights in the making taking to a few promoters down in Brazil and with few managers out of England.

“Right now, we are at a contract discrepancy on the value of the fights. My value right now is high because I am in the Caribbean and I am doing most of my work here. So right now I am holding off until I get the right offer and contract to fly right out.”

He also made a plea for sponsorship to develop himself and the sport in the Federation.

“I am seeking sponsorship to help develop myself and bring the sport to the country and make it like an asset to the young youths to stay off the street and craft themselves in a different way.”
