BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 10th 2013 - The St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) continues to partner with its Member Federations in order to further enhance the development of sports in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
Mr Allister James, a qualified Track and Field/Athletics Level 1 Coach and Physical Trainer, has been awarded the 2013 Coaching Scholarship by the St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee. The coaching course will be pursued at the internationally acclaimed Institute of Coaching and Sport Education in Budapest, Hungary, at a cost of approximately U.S $10,500.00.
Mr James is scheduled to depart the Federation on Tuesday 17th September, 2013, in pursuit of a diploma in General Conditioning, which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In 1997, the SKNOC awarded its first coaching scholarship to Mr John Gumbs, in the sporting discipline of Football. Since then, fifteen (15) other coaches have been trained by the SKNOC under this programme in the sports of: Football/Soccer, Volleyball, Netball, Athletics, Basketball and Table Tennis.
The 3 month course which runs from September 18th to December 6th, 2013, is designed to train and educate coaches/physical trainers in all aspects of coaching and to provide them with a systematic way to improve their knowledge and skills in the theoretical, technical and practical aspects of coaching.
Mr James is currently attached to the Ministry of Education as a Physical Education teacher assigned to the Basseterre High School and also volunteers his services as a coach of the St Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association.
