Standish, Maine. Paul R. Levasseur passed away peacefully at home on November 27, 2008, after a brief illness. Paul was born on June 22, 1926 in Lowell, Massachusetts and moved to Maine in 1959. He was a resident of Standish since 1961.

Paul served his country as a veteran of World War Two and the Korean War. He enlisted in the US Army at the age of seventeen and saw his first action on D-Day, June 6, 1945.

Not yet eighteen, he stormed Omaha Beach, in Normandy, with his brothers-in-arms in the second wave of liberators.

He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and across Germany toward Berlin. After the war, he served in the Army of Occupation in Coburg, Germany, where he fell in love with Marion J. Meyer and they married.

A pioneer denturist in Maine, Paul was an early advocate for provider choice and access for dental consumers. These efforts helped bring increased access to dental care via independent denturists and recently, independent hygienists.

Paul co-founded several businesses, including Levasseur Apartments, Standish Dental Laboratory, Standish Dental Supply and Standish Denture Center, all of which continue as family operated businesses. ~~Adz:Right~~

He was passionate about St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Special Needs Orphanage of Basseterre, St. Kitts, West Indies, the Special Olympics, the Salvation Army, the Youth Boxing Program of St. Kitts and friends and family.

Paul is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Marion and his son Paul-M. Levasseur, both of Standish. He is also survived by his sister Doris Choate of Tennessee and brothers Raymond and his wife Joanne of Lynn, Massachusetts, Ronald and his wife Judy, of Sunapee, New Hampshire and Gerard and his wife Pat of Standish and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his chosen sons and granddaughter, Ophelia “Tasha” Gardner, Rudolph “Mac” McMasters, Dixon Jabbi, Michael Drew, Terry Alexander and his best friends, Stan and Sally Watts.

Paul asked that no visitation or funeral be held. There will be a memorial service next spring and interment will be in Dow’s Corner Cemetery, South Standish, overlooking the family home and in his beloved St. Kitts, overlooking the Caribbean and his friends.

Donations may be made in Paul’s memory to your favorite charity.
