BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 13th 2013 - The St Kitts Lions Club completed its “Traffic Sign” project on Saturday 24 August 2013. The project was a follow-up to the “Leos against Dangerous Driving” campaign held in 1998/1999 where Leos performed the role of crossing guards for one day around Basseterre. During the campaign bumper stickers were also distributed to encourage safe driving.
The project commenced during the Lions Multiple District 60 Convention (22-26 May 2013) and involved the mounting of traffic signs at pedestrian crossings in Basseterre. During the convention one (1) sign was mounted at the crossing at Royal Bank of Canada and Pretoria Gardens
Three (3) additional signs were erected on Saturday 24 August 2013 in the presence of both Lions and Leos, assisted by the Prison and Traffic Departments of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force. The signs are located at the crossings at LIME and the Petrol Station on Cayon Street and one (1) on the corner of Fort Street and Central Street.
The Lions Club continues to partner with the business community of St Kitts and Nevis in their mission to serve the people of St Kitts and Nevis. The traffic signs were funded by the Silver Reef St Kitts.
