BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CIVIL SERVANTS across the Federation would be brighter on pay day, as the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas announced that they could expect a bonus on their salaries this month (September).

For weeks, rumours of both double salary and increments have been the talk for pensioners, civil servants and non-civil servants as persons were of the view that, come this pay day, Government workers and retirees would be expecting either bonuses, increase in pay or both.

The announcement of the bonus was made this morning (Sept. 16) at the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Robert L. Bradshaw Community Park in St. Paul’s.

Dr. Douglas, in his National Heroes Day speech, said that as this is the Federation's 30th year of Independence, it is only fitting to reward the public servants and pensioners.

"I think it is therefore fitting that on this the 30th Anniversary of our Nation, we salute and we reward our public servants and our pensioners by providing them a bonus of one month's salary or pension as a small token; just a small token of our appreciation for their loyal and committed service to the people of this country."

He explained that the bonus would be paid this month and the pensioners and civil servants would receive their salaries early.

Dr. Douglas said that salaries and the bonus would be paid on Wednesday (Sept. 18).

The last time a one-month bonus was paid to civil servants was in December 2009.
