BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - MEMBER of the Independence 30 Committee and Dance Specialist of the Department of Culture, Ava Henry said the recently concluded National Arts Festival Week was “great”.

She made this disclosure during an interview with SKNVibes.

The Week, which lasted from September 8 to 14, highlighted events which showcased performing arts, culinary arts, literary and visual arts in celebration leading up to the St. Kitts and Nevis’ 30th Independence Anniversary.

National Potpourri Day was held on Friday (Sept. 13) in the Independence Square, which collectively brought together the individual themed exhibitions held throughout the week including ‘Eye 4 Art’, ‘Writer’s Corner’, ‘Local Nyam Up’ and ‘Plenty Pan’.

“We tried to bring back a little of what went before, so we called it Potpourri Day. It was one of the better days we had in terms of attendance from the public,” Henry pointed out.

On the following day (Sept. 14) Music on the Square was held with local bands and other entertainers.

The yearly Independence Gala Night held on Thursday (Sept. 12) was also a part of National Arts Festival Week.

Asked how the week-long event went, Henry said, “I would say great. Of course there were some short comings and so, but it was a learning process for us. But I think it went very well because of the participation of the general public, and so we felt good. We know that it wasn't in vain.”

She was also questioned about how the weeklong event complemented the Independence 30th Anniversary.

“Well, to be honest, Saturday night was the ‘Music On the Square’ and as some people put it...it was a nice way of ending the National Arts Festival and was also a hype for the Independence 30th Anniversary celebrations”.

National Pride Week kicked off on Sunday (Sept. 15) with a National Day of Prayer State Service at St. George's Anglican Church in Basseterre.
