BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 18th 2013 (CUOPM) – New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Murray McCully is to hold talks with St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Patrice Nisbett.
Mr. McCully, who is accompanied by New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Canada, His Excellency Simon Tucker; Billie Moore, Private Secretary; Caribbean advisor to the Ottawa High Commission, Connor Tieman; and Special Envoy for Renewable Energy, Dr. Mike Allen, is in the region to talk to world leaders about New Zealand's campaign for a temporary seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Mr. McCully and his delegation arrive here on Friday morning and will hold talks with Prime Minister Douglas and Foreign Minister Nisbett.
The New Zealand delegation will also meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, the Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin: Permanent Secretary for Energy, Mr. Lenny Lake; Human Resource Development Officer, Mrs. Torfreda Rochester and Mr. Carl Herbert of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The delegation leaves on Friday afternoon to join his Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. John Key, to attend the opening week of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 23.
While here, the New Zealand officials will also "UNGA is an excellent opportunity to speak with a range of world leaders about...issues of global importance, such as the situation in Syria,” said Mr. McCully, who stopped in San Francisco last weekend to support Team New Zealand's bid for the America's Cup before travelling on to the Caribbean.
The New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to visit Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica to meet his counterparts and other leaders for bilateral meetings and to discuss the Security Council campaign.
