Fellow citizens of St Kitts and Nevis, I greet you and congratulate you on the occasion of thirty (30) years of nationhood. We have come a long way since our independence in 1983, but it will be remiss of me if I do not remind you that our journey to retain our land of beauty where peace abounds must be our number one priority. As we celebrate this milestone in the life of our nation, let us be mindful of the struggles we are currently facing; a threatened democracy, two motions of no confidence, high unemployment and low economic growth coupled with a dangerously high national debt.
My prayer is that the citizens of the Federation will continue to champion the cause of Unity as we work together to preserve peace, freedom and political stability in our land of beauty and build a nation of peace, love and prosperity.
As we work towards achieving justice for all, opportunity for all and accountability to all, it is my dream that our citizens will live and work in a country that is democratically and economically sound and progressive. I encourage our people to start living their dreams, I encourage growth and meaningful contributions to our economy, and I encourage our people to practise healthy lifestyles as a nation’s health is a nation’s wealth.
Additionally, I urge our people to move forward consciously cultivating the seeds of our nation, our youth – today’s leaders; to build a robust and buoyant Federation. The future is bright with limitless opportunities for growth and development.
As we join in Unity for the betterment of our people let us proudly salute our nation and celebrate Independence 30!
