BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THIS morning (Sept. 21), hundreds of revellers took to the streets of Basseterre for a patriotic J’Ouvert Jam in celebration of the 30th Independence Anniversary of St. Kitts-Nevis.
The twin-island Federation, on Thursday (Sept. 19), celebrated its Independence Day under the theme ‘Stability, Creativity and Prosperity, Independence Thirty’.
This morning’s ‘jump up’ and wine up’ event, which started sometime after 7:00 and climaxed at 11:00, brought an end to the National Pride Week (Sept. 15 to 21) as part of the Month of Activities in September for Independence 30.
On-the-road music was provided by the Kollision Band.
SKNVibes observed a heavy security personnel presence monitoring the J’Ouvert procession in their effort to keep the peace.
The fourth and final week for the month of activities, dubbed National Family Week, is slated to kick off tomorrow (Sept. 22) with the Defence Force Sunset Recital.
The launch of Ministry’s Bright Spot will be held on Sept. 23 then a National Service Day and Elocution Contest for high schools on Wednesday (Sept. 25), which will be followed by a ‘ ‘Know your Country Quiz’ for secondary schools on the following day.
Additionally, a National Blood Drive and a proposed Calypso Show is scheduled for Saturday (Sept. 28).
And on the following day, (Sept. 29), an Older Persons’ Service of Songs and Dance Recital is slated for the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Headquarters in Bird Rock, while the Burial of Time Capsules is scheduled to take place on the following day.
The first and second week of activities were named National Health and Fitness Week and National Arts Festival Week respectively.
