~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ALTHOUGH done innumerable times before, a warning is being sent to all drivers to abstain from drinking and driving especially during the Carnival/Christmas season.

Inspector Venetta Wyatt, Head of the Police Force’s Traffic Department, said during this season there would be increased revelling coupled with increased temptation to drive especially after the consumption of alcohol.

She reminded that 11 individuals across the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis have lost their lives in traffic accidents during this year and although they may not all be related to alcohol consumption, the axiom “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure” holds true.

“Drinking and driving is an offence and I am admonishing persons not to drink and drive. The life you save just might be your own. This is a very serious matter and I am asking persons to view it as that. Too often people drink and drive which can lead to accident and even death.  Drinking and driving is not only against the law but it’s also dangerous.”

The Inspector also reminded of the Federation’s speed limit of 20 miles per hour (mph) in commercial and housing areas and 40 mph in open undeveloped areas. She said these should be adhered to if persons are to avoid being ticketed or prosecuted.

More seriously, she explained, speeding could lead to long-term consequences including death.
