“L-R Children’s Home Director Marlene Liburd, RGS Supervisor Sasha Bridgewater”

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts –RESIDENTS and administration of the St. Christopher’s Children Home received a treat yesterday morning (Dec. 23) when they were the recipients of an EC $5,000 donation from Racing and Gaming Services (RGS).

The betting company took a break from taking wagers on thoroughbred and greyhound races to visit the local institution and present them with a very special Christmas gift.

The move is a component of RGS’ social outreach initiatives, which began in 2006 with the formation of the RGS Social Committee.

According to Supervisor Sasha Bridgewater, the Committee was formed on the principle of “not all circumstances are permanent, especially when people are willing to help”.

“The Committee is comprised of RGS employees who feel strongly about social assistance. Throughout the year they engage in various fund-raising activities to finance their charitable pursuits. ~~Adz:Right~~

“The Committee makes at least one big benevolent gesture every December and this year we chose the Children’s Home to be the beneficiaries because we thought that if there was anything we could do to brighten the smiles of the children, then we would do it,” said Bridgewater.

Administrator Robert Hull revealed that the funds would be utilised in the general operation of the home and renovation projects and expressed his immense gratitude towards the company for their altruism.

“We currently have seven children warded and they have come from neglectful and abusive homes so for them to know there are people out there who are concerned about their well-being really does a lot for the spirit of these children,” he noted.

Past activities by the RGS Social Committee include distributing food hampers to worthy families in 2006 and donating toys, blankets, towels, etcetera to the Joseph N. France Hospital Paediatric Ward.
