~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER weeks of training, 10 Traffic Wardens have been officially bestowed authority to perform duties as full-fledged ticketing officers attached to the Police Force’s Traffic Department.
According to a press release issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Office, the ceremony took place two weeks ago and the authority was bestowed by Commissioner of Police (COP) Austin Williams.
The Wardens are Shee-ron Audain, Renee Tailor, Shakima Farrel, Amoy Bart-Hendrickson, Norma Liburd, Rosalind Arjoon, Gean Browne, Cynthia Guishard, Leticia Ryan and Averil Jeffers.
Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry told SKNVibes that the Wardens would be “assigned to the schools to man the crossings there and, during the vacation periods, they will be assigned to the Traffic Department for patrol duty in the Basseterre area”.
He explained that before the ladies were appointed, they were school crossing guards who had no legal authority to direct traffic or even enforce traffic laws.
“But now that they are appointed and trained as Traffic Wardens, they are vested with the legal authority to enforce traffic laws which include issuing tickets and summonsing drivers for violations.”
Henry told SKNVibes that with the inclusion of the newly-appointed Wardens, general efficiency in traffic-related matters is expected.
The number of trained Traffic Wardens with the expressed authority now sits at 37.
