BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man, who was assisting police with their investigations into a shooting incident that occurred in Sandy Point, is said to have escaped from lawful custody on Saturday (Sept. 28).

He was subsequently taken to the Basseterre Police Station, where he was assisting police with their investigations into the shooting of Keric Lewis of Main Street, Sandy Point.
Information also states that while at the Basseterre Police Station, the young man complained of feeling unwell sometime on Saturday and was taken to the JNF General Hospital, allegedly by a female officer.
While at the hospital, it is alleged that the young man requested to use the bathroom. He was granted permission but seized the opportunity to make good his escape.

At about 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 24), it was learnt that Lewis was among friends and a number of parents and children watching a netball game at the Sandy Point Hard Court when a single shot rang out and struck him in his right leg.
Pandemonium broke out as the spectators and players scrambled to get out of the venue and, the 23-year-old, who was among them, ran all the way to the Pogson Medical Centre from where he was later transported by ambulance to the JNF General Hospital.
This media house spoke with the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, who had informed that no one was held in connection with the incident but investigations were ongoing.
