KINGSTON, Jamaica – The West Indies Cricket Board has showered praise on the West Indies Women’s team following their superb 2-1 series win over New Zealand Women at Sabina Park.

Speaking on behalf of the WICB, Board of Directors and supporters of the game across the region, President Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron, described the 2-1 series result as a “tremendous triumph and a true show of character”.

“I want to congratulate captain, Merissa Aguilleira and the West Indies Women’s team on the magnificent performances which saw them clinch the series against the New Zealand Women. It was a joy to witness their efforts on the field and the way in which they rebounded after losing the opening match,” Cameron said.

“What we saw demonstrated here in Jamaica was a truly brilliant and remarkable display by the West Indies. After losing the first match on Sunday, they pulled themselves together and rebounded like champions.”

West Indies lost the opening match by one run on Sunday. They responded with a huge 89-run victory on Tuesday. On Thursday, they took the series with another big win by 95 runs at Sabina Park.

Stafanie Taylor was the leading performer with both bat and ball and was named Player of the Series. The world Number 1 all-rounder scored 182 runs – including a match-winning 135 not out on Thursday. She also bagged 11 wickets – including 4-35 in the final match.

The WICB President also applauded both teams for the spirit in which the series was played. “The matches were played in the true spirit of the game and both teams should be proud of their exploits. We saw some fierce battle on the field of play but the players remained respectful throughout.”
