Press Release

Montserrat, October 11th, 2013  --  The St. Patrick’s Day Committee announces the schedule of events for the St. Patrick’s Festival 2014.

Scheduled to run over the 10-day period from March 8 – 17, the 2014 Festival will introduce three new events to be produced along with the traditional offering that have defined the week of activities that celebrates the freedom tradition of our ancestors.

St. Patrick’s Festival is also a time when Montserratians and visitors affirm the island’s heritage as a mix of cultures, mainly from Ireland and Africa.

New for the upcoming Festival, are the International Fishing Tournament, the Montserrat-Ireland Restaurants Festival that will be known as ‘A Taste of the Two Emerald Isles’, and the Skits and Short Plays Festival that extends the tradition of local theatre performances.

The fishing tournament organizers are working with mariners and anglers throughout the Caribbean to bring several sports fishing vessels to the island for the two-day event, scheduled for the weekend of March 15 and 16.

Local restaurants will partner with the event committee to host five nights of fine dining which will cater to the tastes of residents and visitors alike in the new ‘A Taste of the Two Emerald Isles’ event.  Part of the new project will be educational, as young Montserratians who want to learn the trade of being a chef will work with experienced local and Irish culinary specialists to increase their understanding of the business of food preparation.

Visitors and residents can look forward to the revival of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and there will be everything from the African Music Festival, Twenty20 Cricket Series, St. Patrick’s Day Church Service, Slave Feast, Village Fest, Freedom Hike, Freedom Run and Walk, Junior Calypso, Clash of the Bands, St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, and Montserrat Rhythm Night.
