BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVE for St. Christopher Three, Hon. Sam Condor told a large gathering that he has been and intends to continue representing the interest of the people who elected him.

Condor made this statement at a Rally on Bank Street, Basseterre following the Unity Team's March on Friday (Oct. 11).

He told the large crowd that the Prime Minister and Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, has been saying that he should resign as that Constituency’s Representative.

"Resign for what? When I was elected to office the people elected me to serve them and to represent the interest of the country. The Land-for-Debt swap was not in the interest of the country and I'm against that and I don't have to go back to ask anybody about that. The Increase in Senators Bill is against the democratic principles that Bradshaw and Moore and Labour stood for and I'm against that, and I don't have to go back to ask anybody anything about that," Condor said.

He also said that when he was voted into office, it was for him to represent their interests and that is what he has been doing over the years.

"When people voted for me, that is what they voted for me for...to represent the interest of the country. And what Douglas is doing is not in the interest of the country, so why I got to ask anybody about that for?

"People voted for me because they think I'm going to represent their interest. People voted for me because they believe I am good, people vote for me because they believe I am the best and I'm going to do the right thing."

Condor stated that it is for that reason he does not have to ask his constituents anything.

He went on to say that no one should take the Prime Minister seriously because he is prepared to do anything to hold on to power.

Condor declared that what he stands for has not diminished and he would continue to cater to his constituents' interests.

“I have not lost any of my values and my principles and my beliefs; they are still burning bright in my heart. I want to see a better country for my people and that is why I am here," Condor said.

The former Deputy Prime Minister resigned from Cabinet in January of this year following the passing of the Increase in Senators Bill in Parliament.

In the press release announcing his resignation, he said: “The recent developments pertaining to issues of good governance and constitutional integrity have brought me to the point where I feel constrained to tender my resignation as a Member of Cabinet, with immediate effect."

Condor also vowed to remain committed to serving the people of his constituency and claims to be praying that God would bless and guide the Federation.

Since then, PM Douglas and other member of the SKNLP have been calling on Condor to resign from Parliament as well.
