Harris dares PM Douglas to ‘ring d’ bell’

Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LEADER of the Unity Construct the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris has mounted a challenge to Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas to “ring d’ bell’ and allow the people of the Federation to elect the government of their choice.

The challenge was issued on Friday (Oct. 11) during a Unity Rally held at Bank Street, Basseterre before a large crowd.

For the past several months there were much talk and speculations about when the next General Elections would be called. However, those dates have all come and gone with the event still pending.

Constitutionally due in 2015, it is suggested in some quarters that the Prime Minister would wait until shortly before that time shall have arrived to announce the General Elections.

Harris’ challenge, however, is that the Prime Minister expeditiously sets the date for and announce the elections and allow the people of the Federation to select their leaders.

According to Harris’ suggestions, plans are rife to have the Social Levi deduction doubled and an increase in the price of cooking gas (liquid petroleum gas LPG) is imminent should the current administration be returned to government.

Touching on his performance while a member of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party administration, Harris declared that under his watch as Housing Minister, 1207 houses were distributed.

“That is why I challenge him; ring d’ bell! Let the (decider) of the government put the government to work for the people. Ring d’ bell! Ring d’ bell! You full ah confidence and you so fraid! You full ah confidence and you behaving like a fugitive from the people!”

Harris promised that better days are coming for St. Kitts and Nevis and asked the people of the Federation to continue supporting the Unity Construct, as its members remain focussed.

The Unity Leader has also challenged the Prime Minister to a debate on the issues of the day; an offer which has yet to be accepted.
