    Kittitian guilty of stealing $80 in BVI

     


    ROAD TOWN, Tortola-A Kittitian woman currently residing in the British Virgin Islands was found guilty of theft before the Magistrate’s Court Tuesday (Jan. 6).

     

    Jacqueline Daniel, 43, of Lower Estate, Road Town was arrested on June 2, 2007 after a customer of the supermarket at Purcell Estate reported to the Police that Daniel had stolen $80 from her purse.

     

    After appointing Herbert McKenzie as her attorney for the case Daniel filed a plea of not guilty in the case at her October 26, 2007 hearing.

     

    The trial continued until December 10, 2008. During that time, the crown’s chief prosecutor, Police Inspector Jefferson Knight presented video footage from the supermarket’s surveillance camera system which showed Daniel approaching the virtual complainant’s shopping cart and removing her purse.

     

    According to BVI News Online, “the purse was later recovered amongst some agricultural produce inside the store, but the $80 was stolen”.

     

    Daniel was found guilty on the theft charges and now awaits a sentencing hearing on February 6.  ~~Adz:Right~~
