BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Sandy Point Agriculture Cooperative Society Ltd. (SPACS) will be hosting its fourth annual World Food Day Fair and Agricultural Exhibition with a day of entertainment and activities.

The Fair and Exhibition would be held on Saturday (Oct. 19) at the Sandy Point Market Place in celebration of World Food Day, which is being held under the theme “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition”.

The Fair will begin at 6:00 a.m. with the usual selling of a wide variety of local produce and agro-processed goods such as pumpkins, green bananas, dasheens, tanias, sweet and seasoning peppers, tomatoes, herbs and thyme, while Ital dishes will be sold from midday.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and the Minister with Responsibility for Agriculture, Sen. Hon. Nigel Carty, is expected to make an address.

SPACS President Lionel Stevens said that Conrad Kelly is also scheduled to make an address with regards to the erection of Green Houses around St. Kitts.

"A Green House is a new way to produce, which is expected to assist with the undersupply of food products. It is a technology that is supposed to control the environment in which food is grown. One of the things it does is keeping out pests, so there is no need for pesticides," he explained.

He said that the recently established Très San Âge, TDC Home and Building Depot, Carton's Farm, Skeeter's Catering and FND Credit Union would also be making presentations and showcasing their products.

Stevens said that they would like to have some displays of "simple production systems that persons could implement in their backyard that would help to show them how to produce foods for themselves in limited space".

Lots of local foods and drinks would be on sale and the children would enjoy bouncing castles and Kevin's Animal Corner.

Giveaways would be done throughout the day while Dj Sixaclak, Jah Motion, DC, Kalaska and others would be providing entertainment for the adults.

Entrance to the Fair is free all day and SPACS is inviting the general public to come on down, show some support and take advantage of all that would be available, as they strive to bring fun, excitement and further awareness to agriculture.
