BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVE for Constituency Two Hon. Marcella Liburd announced that a number of projects have been laid out in an effort to further provide for the residents in Central Basseterre.

Speaking last evening (Oct. 17) at a St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party meeting in the parking lot opposite Best Buy Supermarket, Liburd said that a number of land applications have been approved and the construction of townhouses would soon begin.

"We just approved some land to be distributed in Central Basseterre. That, along with about 60 townhouse units will soon begin to be constructed in the Pine Garden area. So, Central Basseterre will soon be on the move with the land distribution and the building of those townhouses in the Pine Garden area.

"Currently, there are about 25 houses under construction in Central Basseterre as we try to reach about 50 of them on persons who already have land..."

Liburd said that the former workers of the St. Kitts Sugar Manufacturing Corporation (SSMC) who have not yet received their homes would soon be given.

"Also, I would like those persons under the SSMC Programme to know that the housing programme for former SSMC workers, that that Programme is about to start again. Some of you have gotten your homes already, but those of you who haven't gotten your homes as yet, the Programme is restarting and you would shortly be getting your homes."

With regards to parks, Liburd said that Dorset Park is very dear to the people of Central Basseterre as well as the surrounding communities, and it is currently under renovation and should be completed sometime in December of this year.

Liburd said when she was younger, there was a ‘Kids Zone’ in the Park with swings and seesaws, noting that they would be seeking to maintain that aspect of the Park for the children who live and go to school in that area.

She said there are many pre-schools close by and promised that when the Park in completed a ‘Kids Zone’ would be in place.

"We want to make sure that our children can have a safe place to play while, at the same time, we will try and fix up the stands in there, deal with the walls, deal with the bar, the roof etc.," she said.

Liburd said that the renovation is long overdue and she thanked the Hon. Dr. Asim Martin for his assistance with the construction of the Park.
