BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVE for Constituency number Four, Hon. Glenn Phillip has urged voters in his district to have no fear following threats from the Unity platform, which stated that irregular voters in the area are putting themselves in trouble by voting where they do not live.

Last week, Unity candidate for that Constituency and former Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) Lindsay Grant claimed that the governing Labour Party is registering individuals where they do not reside.

“I’m sending the message to those on the other side, that what they have been doing over the last several months and what they have been doing over the last several weeks have not gone unnoticed. I want to say to them on the other side, when you paying those young men and those young women to register in constituencies where they do not live, they are in trouble,” Grant said.

Grant went on to identify individuals whom he claimed are guilty of the practice and warned them that their practices could result in them facing a possible five-year jail term and a fine of EC $30 000.

Thursday night (Oct. 17) at a Labour Party political meeting, Phillip stated that there is an objection process and that the targeted individuals should not be afraid.

“We have stepped up our activities on the ground, and after we have stepped up our activities a crazy man walking around and going to every public meeting and calling people’s names.

“I said to them, there is an objection process...that if people are registered where they are not supposed to be registered then they come off the List. Let me tell every Labour person out there, do not be afraid of them because Labour is stronger than them and stronger than ever.”

Phillip also read excerpts of a letter that was sent to one of his constituents warning her about her children voting in an area where they do not live.

The letter read, “Just thought I would let you know how disappointed I am with the behaviour you had recently exhibit that goes for your husband as well. Although I don’t know him I thought you were more upright as a businessperson.

“Charity begins at home and as parents your responsibility is to train up your children, teach them morals and honesty. Your two daughters were born in St. Paul’s.

"Do you know that it is an offence and carries a penalty of five years in jail or $5 000? As someone from Constituency Four and someone who checks the Voters List regularly, I will make sure if any of your daughters show up their fate will be grave. Warn them, teach them to be honest.”

Phillip reiterated to the voters in his constituency to have no fear.

“I would like to say to the people of Constituency Number Four, do not be afraid, they cannot do you anything.”

Lindsay Grant stated that he is aware of 30 individuals who have registered in areas where they do not reside.
