    Nevis youth shot in shootout with police!

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - A young man from Pond Hill, Nevis was shot in the wee hours of Saturday morning by police officers who were on a routine patrol.

     

    According to Inspector Andre Mitchell of the Criminal Investigation Department, 18-year-old Kishaun ‘Boogie’ Merchant was shot by the police after he opened fire on them during a routine patrol in Charlestown.

     

    The Inspector stated that at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, during a routine foot patrol, the police saw three suspicious-looking men dressed in dark in dark clothing on Main Street, Charlestown.

     

    He noted that the officers challenged the men and they began to run. A chase ensued and one of them turned around while in the vicinity of the Red Cross Building at Chapel Street and opened fire on the officers.

     

    “The officers took cover, returned fire and the man who shot at them was hit and he fell to the ground,” he added.

     

    Investigations later revealed that the wounded man was Merchant of Pond Hill. He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital, where he is detained under guard in stable condition.

     

    One 45mm pistol and five matching rounds of ammunition were recovered from his person but his two accomplices managed to escape by disappearing in the darkness. ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    An immediate search of the area revealed one Mac-10 9mm pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition. However, a later search at daylight resulted in the find of one .38 Revolver with six rounds of ammunition and a .22 Revolver with five rounds of ammunition.
     
    Investigations are ongoing.

     

    Almost two hours earlier on sister isle St. Kitts, 17-year-old Isimba Bradley, also known as Simba and Ratty, was shot to death in Basseterre. A man, who is suspected to have been involved in Bradley’s shooting death, was shot by the police during a chase and is detained under police guard at the JNF General Hospital.

     

    And on Tuesday, January 6 in Nevis, 21-year-old Jevonne Pemberton of Pump Road was shot in the neck by an unknown assailant while he was seated on the passenger’s side of a vehicle that was travelling along Craddock Road. He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.

     

    One person was in police custody assisting with investigations.
