2nd Youth Olympic Games, Nanjing, China – Young Reporters Programme

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, October 22nd, 2013 -- The St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) is pleased to announce the launch of a Sports Journalism Education Programme for Young Reporters. To this end, the SKNOC is hereby inviting applications and nominations from interested individuals and organisations in St Kitts and Nevis.

     

    This initiative will bring thirty (30) Young Journalists from the five (5) continents of Africa, the Americas, Asia, Oceania and Europe to the Youth Olympic Games YOG) in Nanjing, China (August 12th to 28th, 2014) offering them, in the process, specialised media training to be conducted by senior sports reporters over the stipulated period.

     

    The key elements are as follows:
     
    a) Candidates should be between the ages of 18 and 24 years (as of 28th August, 2014); and undertaking full or part time studies towards a career in journalism or other related areas of news media; or young professionals already working full-time in the news media.
     
    b) Two (2) candidates who are nationals of St Kitts and Nevis, will be selected for further consideration from the initial list of interested persons/nominees. One will then be accepted and submitted for further consideration by the Pan America Sports Organisation (PASO). The PASO will in turn select four (4) young reporters from among its 41 member countries.
     
    c) Young reporters will be offered intensive class and field training, in written, photographic, television, radio and media reporting of sport throughout the YOG by professional trainers and seasoned journalists who will act as mentors and coaches.
     
    d) Travel costs to and from Nanjing would be covered by the St. Kitts and Nevis National Olympic Committee (SKNOC).
     
    e) Applications/nominees, along with a comprehensive resume, must reach the SKNOC’s Secretariat at Olympic House, No. 18 Taylors Range, Basseterre, no later than Tuesday 29th October, 2013.
     
    The SKNOC exhorts the media houses, parents and Young Reporters themselves to take advantage of this opportunity to share and learn with and from other young aspiring and seasoned journalists. The NOC, for its part, is proud of its partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which makes this opportunity possible.
