BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE 15-year-old schoolgirl who was discovered dead in the bathroom of her father's home on Tuesday morning (Oct. 22) died of Asphyxia due to hanging.
A press release issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force stated that an autopsy was performed on the body of Azaria Hanley on Tuesday.
"An autopsy was conducted on the body of the late 15-year-old Azaria Hanley of Shadwell Housing Extension on Tuesday 22nd October 2013 by the Resident Pathologist. The autopsy results concluded that the cause of death was a result of Asphyxia by Hanging. The body was handed over to next of kin for further funeral arrangement."
The teenager was found by her father hanging in the bathroom sometime before 7:00 a.m.
Unconfirmed reports state that the teenager went into the bathroom and locked the door. An alarm was raised after some time had passed and there was no audible activity within the bathroom which she had not exited.
Hanley was a student of the Washington Archibald High School.
