CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - THE Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry, said the establishment of a route from London to St. Kitts and Nevis by British Airways (BA) is a major tourism boost for the Federation.

Speaking shortly after meeting with BA officials who visited the island yesterday (Jan. 12) to promote the airline’s inaugural flight to the Federation, the Premier said BA’s going to Nevis would help to fill up hotel rooms.

The Premier, who hosted the visitors at the Charlestown pier just before their departure, was optimistic that the airline would continue to bring visitors from Europe now and when the Four Seasons Resort reopens.

Parry was also hopeful that the relationship between BA and St. Kitts and Nevis would be a long one. He said the presence of the BA team showed their commitment to doing business with the Federation.

Among the passengers on board Saturday’s inaugural flight, which originated at London’s Gatwick Airport, was Nevis’ Junior Minister of Communications Carlisle Powell.

According to Richard Tams, Head of Sales for BA UK and Ireland, the Boeing 777 had on board 780 passengers of which 100 were travelling to St. Kitts. He told SKNVibes that this was very encouraging for a maiden flight.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Tams also said that the airline would use its connections to promote the twin-island Federation to European tourists.

Apart from Tams, the visiting British Airways team included Alison Nicholls of Business Development Tourist Boards and Hotel Partnerships; Amanda Allan, PR Manager; Karen Gordon; and Kong Lee.

The British Airways officials were accompanied by members of the press including Alan Orbell, Managing Editor Selling Long Haul; and Joanne Gardner, Deputy Editor Association of British Travel Agents.
