BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE annual Latin Fiesta LLC event is definitely well on its way in becoming a household name in the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts-Nevis.
Yesterday’s (Oct. 27) fourth annual production, celebrated under the theme ‘Dominican Republic Edition’, brought hundreds of nationals, residents, overseas visitors and of course members of the Latin community together on the picturesque waterfront property of the St. Kitts Marriott Beach in Frigate Bay.
Collectively, patrons came out in such impressive numbers to experience Latin-flavoured entertainment, delectable food and a feel-good atmosphere, which is just what they got.
The two special guest performers, Joseph Fonsesco from Puerto Rico and Allendi from the Dominican Republic, put on a lively Latino concert during their individual performances.
Both acts were backed by a live band which gave a rich rhythmic atmosphere of smooth vocals complemented with lively instrumental vibrations, including pulsating percussions and sensational stringed-strumming.
Latinos, who were familiar with the pulsating music from these two artistes, sang along and swayed while many locals were seen moving about Latin-inspired style on the dance floor as they mix and mingled at the culturally-intertwined setting.
For the Salsa Competition, held earlier in the afternoon, local dancers Kristin Greaux and Samuel Phipps kicked their fancy footwork and bodily movements up a few notches during the dance- off segment from among a field of six couples, which saw some acrobatic-type movements including Greaux being hoisted onto Phipps’ shoulder and lifted skilfully from side to side about his body.
Greaux and Phipps’ dancing style was a hit with the onlookers. And so when the winning position was announced, the audience was in total agreement that the couple deserved it.
Second place went to Rosi Bory from Nevis and Claudio Cortes who hails from Chile, while Puerto Rican married couple Luis and Rosy Pozo came in third.
The prizes from first to third were two top mobile handset compliments LIME, a party for 15 people at Palms Court Gardens and goodies from Temptation respectively.
About 13 couples participated in the dance contest.
SKNVibes had a chit-chat with Phipps, who said he felt “ecstatic” that they had won, noting that he was confident entering the competition.
Phipps declared that he loves dancing and has been doing so for over 10 years.
He revealed that he taught himself most of his moves by watching videos on Youtube and creating his own styles.
The event was hosted by ‘Boogle’, a national of St. Kitts-Nevis, who is a popular radio personality residing in the BVI. Many people would know him as a former host of the annual St. Kitts Music Festival.
