BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONE of the Federation’s main football exports, Atiba Harris, is preparing himself for this weekend’s Major League Soccer Playoff game between his Colorado Rapids and the Seattle Sounders.
Harris, who hails from the St. Peter’s community, has had a roller-coaster scoring, showing his best form earlier in the season with five goals but recently he had to settle for a spot on the bench.
Giving details of the first game of the Playoffs, Harris said, “Playoffs start on Wednesday for us. We're playing Seattle in Seattle in the first knockout round. Winner of this game will play Portland in a two-game series starting on Saturday.”
Harris added that though he was not granted any playing time he would be preparing himself in the event that the opportunity arises for him to take the field.
“I am just focusing on my game right and hoping to get a chance to help the team. I haven't gotten any playing time in the last two games, so hopefully things will change.”
He was unable to describe the form he currently possesses but declared that he would capitalise on any given opportunity to participate in the upcoming matches.
“It's tough to describe my form since I haven't played much lately, but I'm ready to grab hold of any opportunity that comes my way.”
Harris commented on the team’s mood and noted that the Colorado Rapids is going into today’s (Oct. 30) game against the Seattle Sounders as the underdogs.
“The guys are relaxed! The whole country expects Seattle to win, so all the pressure is on them. Obviously, a win on Wednesday will be good, and then we take game by game after that.”
In 2006 Harris became the first player from St. Kitts and Nevis to sign for MLS when he joined Real Salt Lake for the 2006 season. He has scored four goals and added one assist in 22 regular season appearances for the Utah-based club.
