BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONCE again the Commissioner of Police is thanking the law-abiding citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis for cooperating with the law enforcement organisation.
This time, however, is for the information provided that enabled officers of the Police Force to apprehend a male juvenile who had snatched a tourist’s purse and was on the run.
Information reaching this publication stated that yesterday (Nov. 1) while a female tourist was sightseeing along the sidewalk on the Bay Road in the vicinity of the Garden Housing in McKnight, a juvenile pounced on her from the rear and grabbed her purse.
According to eyewitness account, the woman held on to her purse but in the process was thrown to the ground and bruised her arms and legs.
A number of public-spirited individuals went to her aid but the juvenile from Irish Town had made good his escape.
According to a police release, they had launched a massive search for the known suspect and were receiving tips of his whereabouts from the public.
“The search which was being conducted by members of the CID, SSU and Delta Squad, continued into its second day and the suspect has been apprehended and will be formally charged,” the release read.
It also noted that Commissioner Walwyn wishes to thank the public for the tips that were called in giving the movements of the suspect.
“The Commissioner also thanks the leadership of CID, SSU, and Delta for their relentless pursuit of this teenage who sought to jeopardise the economy of this Federation through this selfish act,” it added.
Of recent, members of the public have heeded the call to be actively involved in the fight against crime by providing police with pertinent information, either by reporting same to the nearest police station or calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).
