BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITCHES, zombies, grim reapers and naughty nurses were some of the make-up of character costumes worn by partygoers at Sewage Halloween 6 which ended shortly before 5:00 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 2) at 17 Degrees.
The Nu Vybes Band International (De Sugar Band) bought an electrifying end to the event which was hosted by Big Drew Productions.
Unstoppable Chalice Sounds, Firehouse Sounds and Sister Sensia, during their individual segments, kept the atmosphere lively and ‘jiggy’ with a variety of musical genres that the audience loved.
With the scary component surrounding Halloween, SKNVibes decided to chit chat with a few of the partygoers who decided to wear creepy costumes in an effort to find out why they chose such outfits.
ZOMBIE- Shacquel Liburd
He had a frightening facial skeleton painting and stained, torn clothing in order to pull off this look.
“It was the quickest thing to do at home. My face painting was done by Delrose Wilkinson. Last year I came as the Killer from Pretty Little Liar 'A'.
LIVING DEAD Jade Johnson
With messy hair, a funky dress and artificial blood stains smeared around her mouth, this beauty was a ‘living dead’. Although she was mistaken for a vampire by many people, she left their interpretation of what she was supposed up to them.
“I just wanted to be something scary.”
GRIM REAPER Kishon Swanston from Nevis
Those scary figures that appear in horror movies were present at the event, as some males were dressed in the signature long black gown and the spooky face mask to match. And instead of a scythe, however, those ‘Grim Reapers’ held on to a filled-drink-cup.
“I saw this costume and I liked it,” said Kishon, while Nick, who also dressed as a Grim Reaper, said he was dressed in that particular costume “just to be something bad".
ALIEN GODDESS ‘Mystery Lady’
It almost looked like she was a naked eerie species from another planet. But those artistes who worked their hues and professional touches were definitely on point to make this young woman, who chose not to reveal her identity, look like was she was born with the ‘skin’ she was in.
"I like the body paint effect. I just wanted something that looked unique because this is not the type of look that one can get out a store; so that’s why I chose it. My body painting was done by Mr. Joseph, an Art teacher from Basseterre High School, and Ken Henry.”
WITCH -Latisha Caesar
She did not have a broom and she did not do any terrifying laughs, but this young lady sported the signature hat which made it know that she was a Witch. The other parts of her outfit however, sure omitted her from the look of those of wicked witches we read about in Fairy Tale books.
"I went into a store and saw this costume and fell in love with it,” she said.
There was one male patron dressed in a Bin Laden costume, including a face-like mask. That individual was asked by this writer to remain in a particular spot in order to have his photo taken, which, of course, would have led to him being interviewed.
However, that Bin Laden Halloween character disappeared into the crowd.
Nearing the end of the event, SKNVibes spoke with the Manager of Big Drew Productions, Andrew ‘Big Drew’ Arthurton, who was dressed in a hazard mutant costume.
He seemed pleased about the outcome of the event.
“Well, it started out slow but overall there was a nice crowd. Most people came out in costumes.”
Asked why he chose that mutant costume he wore, to which he replied, “Because it went with the theme.”
Athurton thanked event sponsors Carib Brewery (St. Kitts & Nevis) Ltd., Cane Juice, C&C, Life Fitness Center, Auto Rentals, Island Auto Supplies, Keiroy Browne Photography and SAC Ltd, as well as O D Brisbane and Sons (Trading) Ltd. and all his family and friends for helping out at the event.
According to Arthurton, next year’s event would be "bigger and better with more entertainment for a longer time”.
Arthurton also shared that he intends to start the event earlier and on time.
SKNVibes gathered that artificial cobweb decoration, placed in the roofs of the tents was purposely hung low so as to enhance the Halloween theme. And some patrons got caught up in the web as they danced and walked about.
