When will PAM launch its candidate for Constituency Six?

Hon. Shawn Richards

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A couple of weeks ago, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) presented its full slate of candidates who will be contesting the upcoming General Elections whenever they are held. And questions are still being asked about when the final candidate for the Unity Construct would be introduced to the public.

The Unity Movement consists of three parties; two on St. Kitts being the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the People’s Labour Party (PLP), and one on Nevis being the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM). And of the eight seats on St. Kitts, the PAM would be contesting six and the PLP two.

The electorate is already aware of which SKNLP, PAM and PLP candidates would be doing electoral battle in Constituencies One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Seven and Eight.

But the candidate who will go up against Leader of the SKNLP and Prime Minister of the Federation the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas - who has been contesting elections undefeated since 1989 – has yet to be announced.

Leader of the PAM indicated to SKNVibes that although his party’s candidate for that constituency has already been identified, his launch would take place at the most opportune time.

“We don’t have a specific date in mind but we give the public a full assurance that there is a candidate, and that candidate will be launched at what we consider the most appropriate time.”

The last candidate to represent the PAM in Constituency Number Six was Junie ‘Scrape’ Hodge.

The PAM may have some time on its hands, as current political events suggest to some that, contrary to popular belief, the General Elections might not be held until its constitutionally due date in 2015 or close to that point.

Whether or not that holds true, other schools of thought suggest that time is far-spent. And there are those supporters of the Unity Movement who eagerly anticipate the public identification and launch of the candidate so that they could familarise themselves with him or her.
