Montserrat Community College receives the Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Book Award

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts  (November 7, 2013) – The Montserrat Community College was the recipient of the Fifth Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Book Award at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s 18th Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture & Award Ceremony that was held on Wednesday, November 6th at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank in Basseterre, St Kitts.    

     

    The Award was presented by Professor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies, Dr Neville Duncan, who was the Featured 18th Lecturer and who spoke on the topic, “Awesomeness in Troubled Times: The New Industrial Revolution and the Workforce in the Eastern Caribbean.”

    The Principal of the Montserrat Community College, Mr Paul Payne was in attendance to receive the Award on behalf of the College.  The Award consisted of a collection of book valued at just under US$1,000.00 and included books on Communication, Economics, Science, History, Political Science, Sociology and Tourism.
     
    Of significance in the collection, are three volumes of the Sir Arthur Lewis: Collected Papers, 1941 – 1988, and The Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lectures 1996-2005, expounding on and Economic Theory and Development Options for the Caribbean.   

    Principal Payne said the award will significantly improve the College’s Library collection and provide much needed additional research materials for students, especially in the field of Economics.
