Registration for Sugar Mas 42 ends today

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - INDIVIDUALS who intend to participate in this year’s Carnival activities have until the end of today (Nov. 5) to register for their desired disciplines.

Carnival Chairman Sylvester Anthony, speaking with SKNVibes, is reminding those interested to register by today and warned that there would not be any extensions on the deadline.

“I would like to remind those persons interested in the various disciplines, including Soca artistes and calypsonians that tomorrow (Nov. 8) is the deadline for registration for Sugar Mas 42.

“We are not going to have any extensions for those persons.”

He further disclosed that the Soca Monarch artistes have until the November 18 to submit their CDs.

Anthony also disclosed that registration for this year’s Sugar Mas has been impressive, stating that the numbers are up for the Soca Monarch Competition and it would leave a possibility for a Semi-final in that event.

“Registration is very good. We are still figuring them but I am told we have over 40 registrants for Soca Monarch...over 20 in each of the segments.

“We have to wait until they submit their CDs so we would not know the actual numbers until the CDs are submitted,” Anthony explained.

He added that staging a Semi-final for the competition could lead to a better product on the night of the Finals.

“That is a very good sign to have so many. It is likely that we may actually have a Semi-finals for Soca Monarch, which would be great, because I believe that the fact that we did not have a Semi-finals last year may have affected the final show.

Carnival is expected to launch tomorrow (Nov. 9), which will be followed by the Official Opening Ceremony scheduled for November 22 in the form of a street parade.
