BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THIS year’s National Carnival was launched today (Nov. 9) with a slogan that befits all revellers who regularly participate in the much-anticipated annual event.
The Launch took place at the Palm Court Gardens in Fortlands, Basseterre where the Carnival Committee, headed by Sylvester Anthony, released the Carnival line-up and the slogan and announced the winner of the jingle.
The slogan for this year Carnival is "Sugar Mas 42: Eee belong to me and you!"
Anthony explained that he could not state who the winner of the slogan is because there was no name on the entry which was sent by email.
He further explained that the individual would be contacted via the email address and the name would subsequently be made public.
Anthony said the Committee had received 30-32 submissions for this year’s slogan competition.
He declared that the winner of the jingle is Nadia Berridge-Williams, who had also submitted the winning entry in last year’s competition.
Anthony said that the Committee received eight entries for the jingle competition, which were listened to by the members of the Committee and narrowed down to three choices.
The jingle is dubbed "Sugar Mas in we blood" with an up-tempo Soca rhythm and one line says: "We waiting all year long for St. Kitts-Nevis Carnival, no doubt about it Sugar Mas is in we blood".
Anthony said that the new jingle and slogan would be the centrepiece of the Carnival Committee's marketing throughout the season.
The Carnival season will run from November 22, 2013 to January 2, 2014.
