In January 2009, an outstanding university student, Mahailia Pencheon, one of our very own will take part in a truly American celebration — the Inauguration of the 44th President of the United States.
During the five-day program, the University Presidential Inaugural Conference (UPIC) will provide scholars, like Mahailia with a deeper understanding of the history behind the electoral process and the rich traditions surrounding the presidential inauguration.
Mahailia will have the opportunity to interact with a major presidential candidate, White House officials, congressional staff members, political experts and other VIPs, such as former Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), and former Vice President Al Gore.
She will also experience the grandeur of the inaugural parade, as the president, vice president and their families make their way down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol Building to the White House. To further honor and celebrate Inauguration Day, Mahailia will attend a Black Tie Gala Inaugural Ball.
She expresses her elation and is looking forward to the excitement. ~~Adz:Right~~
“The opportunity to witness history in its making is truly phenomenal and I am extremely excited. This is an event I will forever cherish. The opportunity affords me the chance to be active in turning the pages on America’s history. I strongly believe that the outcome of this experience will prompt me to internally assess my leadership skills to be a transforming figure in our beautiful island, St. Kitts.”
Mahailia is on the verge of completing her Master of Accountancy degree at the Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.
