BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NEW Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) candidate for Constituency Nine in the upcoming Federal Elections, the Hon. Robelto Hector declared that he is the right man to take his constituency forward as the current representative is a “Federal failure”.
“A lot has transpired since Mr. Brantley would have been the elected member. I believe that if the people of Nevis Nine are to look at Mr. Brantley at this moment, he is considered a Federal failure. Other than the agitation, the No Confidence Motion, Mr. Brantley cannot point to anything that he has delivered for the people of Nevis while being a Federal representative or even the Leader of the Opposition.
“If we are to compare him to the Hon. Patrice Nevis, truly the one-to-one laptop programme, the success of PEP in Nevis as it appears, the good working relationship that we’ve had, these are things you would have to judge a Federal representative on.
“What was the package that he was able to bring back to Nevis? Mr. Brantley contested the elections on a number of promises, indicating to Nevisians that he can achieve so much. He has been a Federal failure in my view.”
Hector served the people of Nevis on a local level as part of the Joseph Parry-led administration from 2006 to 2013. He said his track record speaks volumes but Brantley was elected to office as a novice.
“And so today - unlike him who came in as a rookie and was able to excite the crowd - I am able to come now on my performance…what I did as a government minister, what I did as part of a joint cabinet in this country of St. Kitts and Nevis. Nevisians want to be represented. It saddened me to say Mr. Brantley has not given the representation that the people of Nine deserve.”
Asked about the promises or plans he has for his constituents, Hector vaguely answered the question but declared that they are within the guidelines of his party.
“We are saying that once we win the election there is a lot that is happening at the Federal level, and I think it calls for Nevisians to make sure that when they vote this time, they understand that they are having the Nevis Reformation Party that is going forward and looking for the best interest of Nevis. They must realise that the relationship that we have built with the Federal Government is what has brought progress, is what has brought development to Nevis and to St. Kitts.”
Hector said he believes that the development of the country should continue “rather than have it dismantled…and the people are gambling with their future with this new concoction that is being forwarded…”
