Alleged burglar injured by bus in lunchtime chase

By: Melissa Bryant, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RESIDENTS of New Road Housing Extension were interrupted from their lunch yesterday (Jan. 19) when they observed a chase between members of the St. Christopher Royal Police Force and an unidentified man.

Information reaching SKNVibes indicates that shortly after noon, an unarmed man, who was dressed only in a pair of dark boxer shorts, entered a peach house in the neighbourhood through a window.

However, one of the home’s occupants was present at the time of the uninvited guest and alerted the police. A chase involving the occupant and the alleged burglar then ensued, with curious onlookers observing the action as they ran around the neighbourhood.

The police joined the pursuit some minutes after and the hunt continued. The chase ended when the alleged burglar entered a section of road adjacent to the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport’s landing strip and ran into an oncoming passenger bus.

The force of the collision threw the man back several feet and he landed in a ditch by the roadside, where he lay unconscious when SKNVibes appeared on scene. Emergency medical technicians arrived and transported him to the Joseph N. France Hospital.

SKNVibes was unable to confirm the man’s identity or the exact house that he entered; however, police have indicated that investigation into the incident is ongoing.
