BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH all the basic work completed for the lighting system at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium, an official from the Ministry of Sports has declared that they want to develop the venue to be one of the best in the Western Hemisphere and offer a unique experience to all who visit there.
In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Senior Sports Officer in the Ministry of Sports, Vernon Springer proclaimed that they are positioning Warner Park where it would always be considered for hosting international matches whenever played in the Caribbean.
“We are positioning Warner Park where we want to be known internationally. And we want to make a statement where once international cricket comes to the Caribbean we want St. Kitts to be considered, and we want to make sure we have one of the best facilities in the Western Hemisphere. This will give us a platform to showcase to the world what we have.”
He added that the Ministry wants to create a unique experience for patrons when they visit the Park.
“We want when you come St. Kitts and Nevis, it to be an experience. When you come to St. Kitts and Nevis it must be something unique that makes you say, ‘I want to come back.’
“St. Kitts and Nevis has always risen to the challenge. We have hosted matches in the World Cup; so in terms of our level of organisation and getting everything done, we have no shortage of that.”
Springer also gave an update on the progress of the work being done at the Stadium.
“Work is going along at a good pace. The poles are being prepared. Maybe within the next couple of days they will be put together on the ground rather than in the air, then we would have the cranes which will now lift them into position.
“The jumbotron that is being installed on the western mound is set to be completed by Friday.”
Though electricity fluctuates at times in St. Kitts, Springer stated that would no longer be a problem at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.
“That is why we got a generator for Warner Park. And let me indicate that the generator itself will provide electricity for the entire Warner Park, which will include the Football Stadium.”
During that same period, the Ministry will also be working on the square and the pitch. And work will also be done on the Len Harris Cricket Academy.
“There is going to be a lot of work taking place over the next 24 days,” Springer added.
