Basseterre, St. Kitts (November 19, 2013) – At a meeting held in Chicago on Monday, November 11, 2013, Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s senior executive management team and project designers reviewed and approved the final designs for Park Hyatt St. Kitts, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.

The plans for Park Hyatt St. Kitts demonstrate a commitment to responsible tourism that is aligned with the sustainable tourism goals of St. Kitts. According to the plans, the development will benefit the island’s local communities in addition to helping to preserve the scenic natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. The developers have also committed to commence hiring and training Kittitians & Nevisians, well in advance of the resort’s opening, in delivering a luxury destination experience and managing an offshore resort.

Most recently, Kier, a global construction company based in the UK and a publicly listed FTSE 250 company, was appointed as the main contractor for Phase One of the construction of Park Hyatt St. Kitts. Kier’s plans for the development include providing employment in construction and maximizing the use of local materials and resources. Approximately 350 construction jobs as well as additional training program jobs are expected to be created in Phase One. In the near future, Kier will commence their recruitment drive in St. Kitts & Nevis.
St. Kitts & Nevis was represented at the executive meeting by the Honorable Ricky Skerritt. Other senior officials attending included Shaun Treacy, Senior Vice President Product & Brand Design, Americas, for Hyatt Hotels Corporation; Kamal Shehada, Development Director, Range Developments; Jim Ryan, Kier Construction; and Simeon Halstead, Arcadia Designs (head of the team of project designers).

Park Hyatt St. Kitts will be located at Banana Bay, Christophe Harbour, a 2,500-acre resort community being developed on St. Kitts’ southeast peninsula by Kiawah Developments. Phase one of the resort will include the construction of 134 luxury rooms and related service facilities, conceptualized around a Caribbean village theme. The site includes a long stretch of picturesque golden sand beach and spectacular hillside views across to the nearby sister island of Nevis.
