BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - RESIDENTS of Branch and Johnson Streets in Newtown were promised that they would regain full access to the areas in front of their homes, which are currently being used as bus stops, should the Unity Team win the next General Elections.
This commitment was made by the People’s Action Movement’s candidate for Constituency Number One, Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd, at two political meetings held last week by the Unity Construct.
Liburd said that when the Unity Team takes office residents would see a relocation of the bus stops away from those streets.
“Another vexing issue in East Basseterre is the bus stop on Branch and Johnson Streets. Imagine Asim as the Minister of Transport...but has no vision. After 18 years in office he has created a bus stop in front of where people live, and we say that is nonsense.
“We are going to relocate that bus stop as soon as we get into office and give the people of Johnson Street and Branch Street their privacy. They can’t even park their cars in front of their house because the police come on the road and mark it bus stop.”
Liburd said that he would find a suitable location for the buses.
“Once elected as the Representative for East Basseterre, I would bring before the consideration of the Cabinet the relocation of passenger busses and develop a proper terminal for the East Line busses. We would relocate those busses in an area that is suitable.”
Liburd also promised to look at other troubling issues in the area.
“We will also look at fishing, we will also look at youth, and we will also look at slum clearance.”
