BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FORMER Finance Manager of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority Wayne Clarke was on Wednesday (Nov. 20) remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison after being found guilty of larceny.

He was convicted following a trial at the Basseterre High Court.

A Police Press Release issued today (Nov. 22) stated that the Nevis Street resident stole over EC$30 000 from the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.

"On Wednesday 20th November 2013, Wayne Clarke of Nevis Street was convicted for the offence of Larceny of EC$32,354.73 which was committed during November 2011 at St. Kitts Tourism Authority."

The Press Release also stated that Clarke was employed at the St. Kitts Tourism Authority as Senior Accountant/Finance Manager and was in this area of work for 24 years.

However, he was only employed at the St. Kitts Tourism Authority in 2010 and his services were terminated in May 2012.

The Press Release also stated: "The case was prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mr. Travers Sinanan and Crown Council Miss Greatess Gorden. The DPP in closing speech told the jury that Mr. Clarke abused his powers as acting CEO to steal the money and attempted to cover his tracks, and he had no intentions to repay the money; it was his intention to steal the money."

Clarke was remanded to Her Majesty's Prison and will be sentenced following his Social Inquiry Report.

He was arrested and charged in April 2012 and was on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison but obtained his conditional freedom on June 15, 2012.

The maximum penalty for this offence is seven years imprisonment.

Clarke was also the owner of Pandas Entertainment, a company that organised three events in 2011, which included ‘A Stitch in Time’; an event that was touted to be the most “massive concert” St. Kitts had seen in recent times.

According to mugshots.com, (an international website which is a search engine for Official Law Enforcement records, specifically booking photographs that are originally collected and distributed by law enforcement agencies), Clarke was also facing charges of grand theft allegedly committed in Florida in 2006.
