GIS Press Release

Roadtown, Tortola - The BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) will soon be able to electronically check cargo and manifests of cruise vessels, among other things, after the installation of the Klein Systems Group Software Solution.

Representatives from the Klein Systems of Vancouver, Canada are currently in the Territory installing and testing the final phase of the Software.

The system, which is expected to go live by mid-February, is designed to handle the scheduling and proposed berthing of vessels before arrival; receive break bulk cargo; receive containers and de-stuffing of containers; track containers and cargo and deliver cargo and contents.

Managing Director of the BVIPA Mr. Vincent O’Neal told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the new system will enable the Authority to receive all cargo and cruise vessels manifests electronically, in advance of a vessel’s arrival in the Territory.

“The new system will also allow us to keep an accurate account of cargo electronically, and cut-back on the large volume of paper work that the process currently generates.  In addition, the new technology will enable us to track containers expeditiously, which will assist us in managing our port facility space and enhance the revenue generated from storage collection,” Mr. O’Neal added.

The Government of the Virgin Islands (UK) remains committed to upgrading the passenger and cargo handling facilities at all ports throughout the Territory by enforcing tighter operations requirements.
