ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Following a two-day search of the coastline in Dieppe Bay, St. Johns, the body of Kofi Wiltshire, 22, of Guyana was found yesterday (Jan. 20).

According the AntiguaSun, around 7 yesterday morning Wiltshire’s body was found a few metres offshore by officials of the Antigua-Barbuda Coast Guard. The news source reported that Wiltshire was last seen on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 18) at the beach with a number of his friends minutes before he began “encountering difficulties”.

The Guyanese national was reportedly on vacation in Antigua and was scheduled to return to his home on the same day his body was recovered. The report quoted a family friend of the victim, explaining that Wiltshire went out at sea on a sailboat but decided to swim back to shore. He informed that about 50 yards away from shoreline, Wiltshire removed his life jacket claiming it was not comfortable and subsequently encountered difficulties.

Tyson told the media house that Wiltshire called out for help, but bystanders were unable to get to him in time.

Wiltshire’s death is recorded as Antigua’s first case of drowning for the year.
