BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - UNLIKE regional and international pageants where the press is given first preference to publicise an event or interview participants, the organisers of the National Carnival Queen Pageant has deviated from the global standards pertaining to pageantry.
Take for example the regional carnival pageants in countries such as Trinidad, Jamaica and Bahamas, just to name a few, the media are given first priority to introduce the girls to the public either by a press conference or an evening event.
It’s a bit different in the St. Kitts and Nevis because the organisers clearly did not take the patterns of other islands, which gives rise to the suggestion that the committee wanted do things differently.
Taking into consideration the fact that the hopefuls for the National Carnival Queen Pageant are very busy women with everyday responsibilities, SKNVibes thought is fit to interview each contestant for the general public’s knowledge.
When contact was made with one of the delegates (name withheld), it was noted that she was not authorised to do any interview “individually” but in the presence of her other rivals who are contesting for the title.
The contestant advised the media house to contact the organiser of the pageant for permission to perform such duties.
When contact was made with the Chairperson of the Pageant Committee, Nisharma Rattan-Mack, it was related to this publication that it was impossible to interview the young ladies on an individual basis.
With the pageant being just a few weeks away, the stunning five have only made one appearance since the launch of Sugar Mas 42 with just the public knowing their names and faces.
Rattan-Mack outlined that because of the young ladies seemingly busy schedule, an interview could be facilitated in two weeks time, but on the grounds that it be done in her presence.
By this time, every media house on the island would have had a chance to interview the beauties and a feature on these women would just be rhetorical.
It is very strange because when contestants of international beauty pageants are being interviewed, their organisers are but shadows.
A suggestion to the organisers is to choose a date, have all the women prepare themselves and host a press conference so that every media house in the Federation can have a one-on-one talk with the beauties, which will definitely create public awareness of these lovely women.
