Basseterre, St. Kitts (July 25, 2005): The 200 campers participating in the Youth Departments 2005 Summer Residential Camp were guests of the St. Kitts Marriott Resort last evening, as the traditional banquet climaxed a three-day span of extraordinary activities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth Hon. Sam Condor along with Ministers G. A. Dwyer Astaphan and Rupert Herbert joined the camp staff and members of the Naismith International Basketball Foundation (NIBF) the primary private sponsors to celebrate the annual camp and get an insight into the developmental programmes that have been taking place. This was achieved via a slideshow and a brief report by Youth Director/Camp Director Geoffrey Hanley.
On Friday Water Day was observed. On that day everyone on camp was encouraged to drink only water with meals. Pools were also filled for persons to play in. Mr. Hanley noted that Water Day was tied directly to the camps sub-theme Staying Healthy for the 21st Century.
Saturday was highlighted by a street parade during the morning and the eagerly anticipated Mr. and Mrs. Summer Camp Talent and Variety Show in the evening. The fun-filled event showcased the talent of participants as they demonstrated skills learnt on camp. Angel Mills and Brensyl Blake were adjudged the winners.
Church services around the island were attended by camp members on Sunday that lead up to the aforementioned banquet which was flavored with a pirate theme.
Noting the developmental work carried out at the camp, Minister Condor saluted all of the sponsors for their contribution. He singled out the NIBF for the seven-year partnership with the government.
