Greater Sugar Mas 42 experience expected…says Chairman

Basseterre St Kitts – CITIZENS and residents of as well as visitors to the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis can expect a much superior Carnival experience of the different Mas Troupes come December 23, as the Carnival Committee gears up for the 42nd Edition of Sugar Mas.

This was the view shared by the Chairman of the 2013 Carnival Committee, Sylvester Anthony, during a recent interview, who said that through a sneak peak at some of the troupes St. Kitts and Nevis could expect an increased turnout of participants.

“The impression that I have gotten is that we are having a little more J’Ouvert Troupes than last year and perhaps the same number of Grand Parade Troupes that we had last year.” Anthony said.

The Chairman revealed to SKNVibes that a number of the Mas Troupes are experiencing minor difficulties and, as such, the committee stands committed to assisting some of them.

“This is especially in the support they need for generators and for tractors. We are working to resolve those issues and I think we should be in a position shortly to announce that we have addressed those.”

Anthony said that as Chairman of the Committee, he has planned to use Carnival as leverage to get the much needed generators at an affordable cost for the troupes, so as to avoid the heavy charges from bands.

When asked about his anticipation for Sugar Mas 42, Anthony said, “I get a sense from talking to the troupe leaders and even to some of our sponsors…to everybody, this Carnival is expected to be greater than it was last year and that’s the sense I get. I went through all of the tents and the people appearing at the tents are more than what was expected.”

Anthony said that the committee has since written a cheque of an undisclosed sum to help the Mas Troupes offset some of the still needed equipment and essentials in time for Sugar Mas 42.
