    The Mighty Chalkdust the 2005 Calypso Monarch of Trinidad & Tobago.
    (Basseterre; St. Kitts) July 26th 2005
     The Mighty Chalkdust the 2005 Calypso Monarch of Trinidad & Tobago conducted one of three workshops yesterday Tuesday, July 26 at the Basseterre High School at 5 p.m.
     
    The workshops are expected to enhance and promote the Calypso art in the Federation of St. Kitts/Nevis and are organized by the by the Culture Department and is scheduled to go on for two more days July 27th and 28th from 5:00pm  9:00pm.
     
    Chalkdust whos real name is Dr. Hollis Liverpool holding a PHD in Social Sciences gave a historical education over viewing the history of Calypso.
     
    He showed the journey of the General Development of Calypso and the Calypsonian in a strong and energetic presentation.
     
    He answered a question many people have asked and wondered over the years which is What is Calypso?
     
    Before present and past Calypsonians and judges Chalkdust explained that calypso is our culture and our people.
     
    It is an art form known and embraced by more than those who lived it, could be traced as far back as the slave ships, he said.
     
    He also showed the showed the metamorphosis of the Calypso art from during different decades such as Post Emancipation during the 1900s  1930s.
     
    The Calypsonian must know the history of Calypso, he said. He must understand that blood was shed to create this beautiful music that we could call our own, he must love the art form in order to be a great Calypsonian.
     
    He continued: If we do not know our history then we cannot teach our children, we must become educated in order to educate.
     
    After his presentation the attendees showed their thanks with a melodious round of applause and standing ovation.
     
    The seventh time Calypsonian winner of Trinidad also used references from historical literature, and quotes from some of his books such as From The Horses Mouth to support his presentation.
