NASSAU, The Bahamas – BAHAMIAN Senator Pleasant Bridgewater has been charged in connection with a plot to extort money from Hollywood actor John Travolta after the recent death of his son, Jett.

According to Caribbean Net News, local authorities reported that Bridgewater was charged on Friday (Jan. 23) with two counts of abatement to extort and conspiracy to extort and later released on $40 000 bail.

Authorities further stated she would be arraigned early next week in the capital city of New Providence.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Marvin Dames revealed last week that Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston, filed a complaint after they were approached by someone claiming to have photographs of Jett, who died January 2 at the family’s vacation home on Grand Bahama island.

Police officials said that a paramedic named Tarino Lightbourne, who was wanted in connection with the case, is under arrest and is assisting in the investigation. Lightbourne turned himself in to police after he was publicly named a suspect.

Obediah Wilchcombe, a member of Parliament and former Minister of Tourism, was also detained last week but released pending further investigation.

Jett Travolta was Travolta and Preston’s only son. He was last spotted on New Year’s Day and was found dead the following morning.

According to autopsy results, the teen died of a seizure.
