Team UNITY’s Jonel Powell Delivers for the Ordinary Man

Powell Talks to Constituents during Community Clean-Up
By: Team UNITY, Press Release

Call for greater consideration of his constituents and the ordinary citizens of the federation heeded

Basseterre, St.Kitts (Team UNITY Communications)  --  The call by Team UNITY’s candidate for Central Basseterre Jonel Powell has not fallen on deaf ears and has been heeded. The still illegitimate government of Dr Denzil Douglas has given in to the appeal of Powell and the ordinary man and woman of the federation and has moved  the second reduced vat day from Thursday 19 to Friday 20 and has included vehicles in the reduced vat list of items for that day.

In a statement issued prior to the first VAT DAY Powell  called for two considerations to be t aken and changes made with regards to the VAT DAYS.

Powell called on the government to:

    1. Include vehicles as approved items for purchase at reduced VAT rates on the allocated days.

    2. Move the allocated days for reduced VAT to Fridays so that more persons, in particular weekly paid workers, may have an opportunity to take advantage of the incentive.

In a statement delivered today Dr Douglas stated that the 2nd announced VAT DAY will be moved to Friday December 20th from Thursday 19th and unlike the first VAT Day there will be a 12% VAT Discounts on all vehicles as was demanded by Powell on behalf of the ordinary citizens of the federation.

Powell in responding to the good news said “This again shows that the illegitimate Prime Minister and his cabinet has lost touch with the ordinary people of this country. It should not have taken my appeal and that of Team UNITY for them to reconsider as had they any connection to or consideration for the ordinary man they would not have scheduled the VAT days on the days they did . Neither would they have excluded vehicles.”

“I sympathize with those who purchased vehicles on the last day and were unable to take advantage of the reduced vat and those who lost the opportunity to shop because they did not get paid until the day after. This again shows an out of touch leader who simply does not care,” Powell continued.
