BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PRISON is definitely paying off for a talented group of men whose musical abilities are being recognised and rewarded.

Her Majesty's Prison Coral, alias the Rehabilitation Group Impression, displayed an outstanding performance last night (Dec. 11) at the In the Spirit of Christmas concert and was presented a $1 000 cheque to offset expenses.

The reward was given to them on behalf of the Department of Culture.

Presenting the monetary donation was Minister with responsibility for Culture Hon. Marcella Liburd, who expressed pride in the band and noted that it had come a long way.

Minister Liburd disclosed that the band had been called upon by the Cultural Department to perform on a number of occasions and its members have never ceased to amaze their audience, the Department and herself.

She said that their last performance was delivered in September during the Federation's 30th Independence celebrations at the Arts Festival, where they did an excellent job. And on realising the band's potential, the Ministry decided to make a contribution towards its development.

The Minister advised that the funds should be put towards the purchase of instruments and other necessities for the band's advancement.

She encouraged the members to continue practising and developing their skills and focus on advancing themselves as individuals and as a band, adding that prison does not mean all is lost for them.

Superintendent of Prisons Franklin 'Weatherman' Dorset and Band Leader Bernell 'Blues' Hobson accepted the cheque on behalf of the band and declared that the funds would be put to good use.
