    Post-Birthday and Holiday Cocktails To Also Be "Voting Party" For Country-woman!!

    Brooklyn, NY - On Monday, December 16, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m., friends, supporters and well-wishers of Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, (New York's 9th Congressional District) will join her for a post-birthday soiree and holiday cocktails at Woodland Restaurant, 242 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.  The mix and mingle with the political elites, business leaders and young professionals of New York City, will also be a fundraiser for the congresswoman’s re-election bid in 2014.

    And now just announced-the event will also take on the added dimension of national pride and celebration as with Jamaica's Tessanne Chin reaching the finals of NBC's The Voice, the Congresswoman --who has followed Tessanne Chin's rise in the competition---has made the decision to make her event a "Voting Party," for her fellow Country-woman."

    For weeks we have watched our darling Tessanne deliver one flawless performance after another on the Voice," she said. "On Monday night she will deliver her finalwinningperformance and we will be right there, all Jamaicans, wherever we are across the Diasporato support her with our votes. [I]more than anyone know that every vote countstherefore I have decided to make my my post-birthday and holiday cocktail reception, a 'Voting Partyfor Tessanne! And,[of coursewwe will be celebrating on Tuesday night when the votes are counted!

    The Congresswoman noted the Diaspora's support which has reached fever-pitched proportions especially in the Brooklyn Diaspora enclaves which also includeher congressional district. "I try to attend and support cultural events here in the Diaspora every chance
    I get which gives me so much joy," she continued.  "Our exploits in Academia, Politics, Music, Sports, Culinary Arts, etc., are a phenomena on the world stage. As people of Jamaican and Caribbean ancestry and heritage, we feel a special infusion of pride when any one of us excel in our chosen paths and [weare compelled to revel in that success. I encourage everyone to get on every device available and vote at the maximum to ensure victory for Tessanne."

    The Congresswoman's event follows on the heels of the recently very successful Jazz Meets Fashion fundraiser for 'Clarke for Congresswhich was also the 79th birthday celebration of her mom and doyen of New York politics, the Honorable Una S.T. Clarke, CD This election cycle sees the Congresswoman being challenged for the seat.

    As she makes her push through to the primaries, the support of the community and of most importantly her compatriots is crucial for her victory at the polls. Congresswoman Clarke (continuing the rich legacy of her trail-blazing mother) was first elected to the house in 2006 in New York's 11th Congressional District. In November 2012, she was relected to represent New York's new Ninth Congressional District with 87 percent of the vote.

    Her steady rise in the 113th Congress, has seen her serving on three House committees which are as follows:
    Homeland Security Committee (Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies and Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications);

    The Small Business Committee Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations and Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforceand the Ethics Committee. Her seven-year tenure has been one of leadership on key issuesa path she hopes to continue on behalf of her constituents to ensure they have the strongest, most-dedicated representation at the highest level

    She recently called on President Obama to halt he deportation of immigrants of the Caribbean and other countries to protect families and ease the sense of fear under which these families exist.

    The primaries will be held June 2014 as opposed to the usual September calendar, a fact which folks need to be aware of this means a very active schedule for the Congresswoman through then. For supporters heading to Woodland on Monday, g eneral admission tickets are $100.00 with [other] support levels ranging from ($500-$2,600).  For information on tickets and contributions please call 718/940-2480 or 718/940-2008.
